History of Whyte Avenue

Whyte Avenue was the main street of the city of Strathcona as it formed. Later, the city of Strathcona was merged with the city of Edmonton in 1912. Named after Sir William Whyte in 1891, who was superintendent of the CPR's western division from 1886 to 1897, Whyte Avenue is still the main street of the heritage district of Old Strathcona. Whyte Avenue is part of a 40-kilometre-long roadway that runs through Sherwood Park, Edmonton, and St. Albert.

There are a lot of things to do in and around Whyte Avenue, especially since it's a historic district that dedicated to entertaining tourists who come to experience the arts and culture. For a cold beer, the oldest pub on Whyte Ave, O'Bryne's, is always open or hop in at The Nest Act, a pub that serves locally crafted beers.
