Stony Plain History
Stony Plain Town began as a settlement, but the original location was 3 km south of modern-day Stony Plain. The settlement was originally known as Dogump Creek but was renamed Stony Plain in 1892. 1n 1891, German-Russian immigrants settled a few kilometres north of the present town and in 1905 the Canadian Northern Railway passed north of the original settlement. As a result, the town's few buildings were moved to the railway's location.
The town's communities include High Park, Willow Park, Lake Westerra, The Glens, Heritage Estates, Woodlands, Homesteads, Meridian Heights, Country Plains Estates, Rosenthal Estates, St. Andrews, The Fairways, The Glens, Willow Park, Old Town and Silverston. Stony Plains's boundary to the south is Range Road 12, the southern boundary is close to Township Road 522, the eastern boundary is north of Veterans Blvd and the northern boundary is south of Yellowhead Highway.

The centre features an aquatic complex, leisure ice for family ice skating, a fitness complex, an indoor playground, a running track, an outdoor pool and an outdoor community rink.
