Garneau History

Garneau is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Edmonton and was part of Strathcona before it was annexed by Edmonton in 1912. It is named after one of its earliest settlers, Laurent Garneau, who moved to the neighborhood in the early 1900s. The area is bounded by Strathcona neighborhood on the East, on the west by the University of Alberta main campus, and the south by Mckernan and Queen Alexandra neighborhood.

Garneau overlooks the North Saskatchewan River valley which is passable through the High Level Bridge. The neighborhood offers several recreational hotspots such as playgrounds, parks, award-winning restaurants.
