Forest Heights History

Windsor Realty originally developed Forest Heights in 1911. In 1913, the neighbourhood officially became part of Edmonton, however, the area was used as farmland until the 1940s when housing demand increased following World War II. The development of the neighbourhood was mostly completed by the 1980s. The neighbourhood is represented by Forest Terrace Heights Community League, established in 1920. Forest Heights is bounded to the north and west by the North Saskatchewan River Valley, south by 98 Avenue and east by 75 Street and Wayne Gretzky Drive.

Forest Heights Recreational Activities

Forest Heights hosts many recreational amenities and activities. The neighbourhood backs onto the river valley and is home to Forest Heights Park, which means residents have access to numerous multi-use trails perfect for biking, walking and running. Also, within the area, several natural viewpoints offer breathtaking views of the river valley and the Downtown Core cityscape. The Forest Terrace Heights Community League maintains a community hall, an outdoor hockey rink, a playground, a gazebo area and a spray spark which is a lot of fun for the kids during the summer. 

The Forest Heights Park is one of the largest parks in the Edmonton North Saskatchewan Valley park systems. To the east of the neighbourhood, across Wayne Gretzky Drive and along 101 Avenue, residents have access to fast-food chains, coffee shops and restaurants such as Second Cup Coffee Co., A&W Canada, Hawaiian Poke & More and Domino's Pizza.
