Brander Gardens History
Brander Gardens is named after George Brander, a peony gardener who moved to Alberta in 1921. His peony garden was located in the Bonnie Doon area and was a major supplier of peonies until the 1940s. About 75% of Brander Gardens residences were built during the 1970s, while a few were built during the 1960s and 1980s. Apartment-style condos and condominiums in low-rise buildings are the majority by 36%, while single-family homes take up 30%. The remaining are spread out between row houses (24%) and duplexes (10%). The neighbourhood is bounded on the east by Whitemud Drive, south by Ramsay Heights neighbourhood, and north and west by the North Saskatchewan River Valley.
